Head of Department's Welcome

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was established in 1947 as part of the Melbourne School of Engineering, which has been offering degrees at The University of Melbourne since 1889. The Department today is widely recognised for its excellence in teaching and for providing an outstanding research environment for staff and postgraduate students.

The Department offers both PhD and Masters level research degrees as well as postgraduate coursework degrees -    Master in Telecommunications Engineering (MTE), Master of Nanoelectronic Engineering and a Professional Master of Engineering (Electrical) .

The Department has a vibrant research program based on strong specialist research interests in Neuroengineering, Signals and Systems and Telecommunications. We receive exceptional research support from industry, government and other sources.

The Department's research staff and students are major contributors to Victoria Research Laboratory of the NICTA - the national centre of excellence in information and communications technologies and Bionic Vision Australia - a joint venture funded by the Federal Government of Australia to develop retinal implants capable of restoring vision to those suffering from Macular Degeneration.
