The Award of BE Degree

(6.3) THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Award of the BE in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering

The requirements for the award of the BE in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering are:

  • completion of at least 400 points overall, which must include all specified subjects at all year levels;
  • completion of at least 25 points of management or non-technical subjects.

The degree will be awarded with honours for students who obtain an appropriate honours mark for the complete course as specified in the procedures for the honours calculation. Students should note that the project work subject must be taken in the final year in order to qualify for consideration for honours. Students who take subjects while on exchange programs should note that their results for these subjects will not be included in the calculation for honours.

Vacation Employment

Vacation employment is NO LONGER a requirement for the award of the BE in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. However, students who do satisfactorily complete vacation work will be issued with a certificate by the Dean of the Melbourne School of Engineer.

Twelve weeks of approved vacation work should be in an area relevant to engineering, and be performed under the supervision of a qualified engineer. It may be completed in Australia or overseas. The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering should be informed of the length and nature of any completed vacation employment.

The Melbourne School of Engineer may provide information if possible about arranging vacation employment. Some assistance can be obtained from the University Careers Office.
