Mr Zhiding Wu

Research Interests

Smart grid, optimisation, distributed generation, coordinated control, and wireless power transfer.

Biography

Zhiding Wu is a probationary Ph.D. student at the University of Melbourne. Previously, he had been an Electrical Engineer at the Department of Smart Grid from Guangxi Electric Power Research Institute of China Southern Power Grid, China from 2011 to 2014. He received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Guangxi University, China in 2011 and his B.E. degree in Electronic Information Engineering from Northeastern University, China in 2008.

PhD research project: Optimal coordinated control in distributed generation integrated micro grid

Multiple distributed generations (DGs) such as photovoltaic, wind turbine, and battery bring great challenge to the control of micro grid and distribution network. Optimal coordinated control of these power sources is proposed in this project for the regulation of voltage, frequency, power, and harmonic both in grid-connected mode or islanding mode. Furthermore, optimal coordinated control between DGs and other electric power facilities, such as substation, on-load tap changer (OLTC) transformer, static var compensator (SVC), and static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), is developed. In addition, a novel intelligent algorithm called water cycle-like algorithm (WCA) is presented for handling the optimisation problems in this project.
