Geoffrey Lang with Eczema Monitoring Device, won the EA Best Undergraduate Project Award — [03 Dec 2007]
The project Eczema Monitoring Device, by student Geoffrey Lang (supervisor: Mohammad Aldeen) has won the Best Undergraduate Project Award by The College of Biomedical Engineers (EA).
The talk described the development of a monitor for involuntary scratching during night sleep of children suffering from Eczema. Recording, analysing and presenting of the information is useful for both treatment evaluation and research. The device will undergo clinical trails at RCH this summer.

The Bilfinger Berger Services Scholarship for Tomorrow's Engineering — [13 Aug 2007]
Undergraduate scholarship. Closing date: Mon Aug 13. Bilfinger Berger Services (Bilfinger Berger Services) first established the Scholarship for Tomorrow's Engineering Leaders in 2006, providing an outstanding student in mechanical or electrical engineering with support throughout their final year. The scholarship comprises $5,000 (paid in two instalments), 12 weeks paid vacation work (during summer ?07-?08) and a mentor throughout their final year. The 2008 Bilfinger Berger Services Scholarship is now open for application by any full-time student in the penultimate year of a single or combined Engineering degree, majoring in mechanical or electrical engineering and reasonably expecting to complete their degree by the end of 2008. Applicants must be Australian citizens or Permanent Residents. Application form.
Boston Consulting Group (BCG) undergraduate scholarship — [13 Aug 2007]
Closing date: Mon Aug 13. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) is currently accepting applications for its Australian and New Zealand Undergraduate Scholarship. The scholarship is worth $10,000 and is designed to assist students as they plan their final year of study. The scholarship is open to undergraduate students from all academic fields who are Australian or New Zealand permanent residents and are in their penultimate year of University. Rod Tucker: IEEE Aron Kressel Award — [21 Jun 2007]
Congratulations to Professor Rod Tucker for winning the IEEE Aron Kressel Award. The award recognises Rod's enormous contributions to optoelectronic device technology and the impact his work has had in major practical systems.
1966 EE Class Reunion — [05 Mar 2007]
A class reunion of graduates, whose final year of study was in 1966, was held last Wednesday 21st February in the Department.

Professor Peter Gerrand, who is currently the Chair of the Melbourne University Engineering Foundation, organised the reunion.
The reunion consisted of a group tour of the EEE buildings and an update on the Department and the research being undertaken in NICTA with talks from Associate Professors Jamie Evans and Peter Farrell. The group also met with Executive Deputy Dean, Professor Rob Evans.

Girish Nair and Rob Evans: SIAM outstanding paper prize winners — [21 Jun 2006]
Dr Girish Nair and Professor Rob Evans have been selected as one of three winners of the SIAM outstanding paper prizes for their paper, 'Stabilizability of stochastic linear systems with finite feedback data rates'. The paper appeared in the SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization in 2004.
The prizes, first awarded in 1999, are given for outstanding papers published in SIAM journals during the three years prior to the year of the award. The prizes will be awarded on July 11 at the 2006 SIAM Annual Meeting at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, Massachusettes.

Felix Liebrich and Terry Williamson (University of Melbourne) have won this year's College of Biomedical Engineers (VIC), Undergraduate Student Project award, with project: "Wheelchair Ergometer".
Olivia Laskowski, Sapna Shah and Yan Liu (University of Melbourne) have also won one of the runners' up, with project: "Personal Falling Alarm".

Mohammad Tabbara in final for Best Student Paper Award — [20 Jan 2005]
Mohammad Tabbara was selected as one of the four finalists for the Best Student Paper Award in the joint Conference on Decision and Control/European Control Conference (CDC/ECC) in Seville, Spain, December 2005 for the following paper: M. Tabbara, D. Nesic and A.R. Teel, "Input output stability of wireless networked control systems"
Department's accreditation by IEE — [24 Aug 2004]
The accreditation panel was focusing on the Department's internal systems and the standards reached by students through detailed inspection of the Department's teaching curriculum. The Department passed its accreditation with flying colours. We received re-accreditation of all of our current courses and provisional accreditation for our new programs (Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical Engineering) Biosignals 679 BS, Bachelor of Engineering (Engineering Management) Computer 680 CE, Bachelor of Engineering (Engineering Management) Electrical 680 EE, commencing in 2005.
Discovery Day Success — [22 Aug 2004]
Once again our Department has made an excellent contribution to the success of Discovery Day. Our students displayed their projects with great enthusiasm and there was an increase in interest from potential enrolments, especially in the Faculty marquee asking for advice on the BE(IT) Degrees.
