System Identification
In order to design a control system for an irrigation channel, a mathematical model of
the channel is required, and system identification deals with the problem of building
mathematical models of dynamical systems based on observed data.
- Decentralised PI control
The two objectives of always being able to supply water on demand and minimising the losses are
conflicting and subject to constraints of environmental, economical and political nature. Often
irrigation channels are operated on the conservative side with relatively large flows and high water
levels. Under such operating conditions, demand can be met most of the time but the wastage of
water tends to be large.
