Workshops

  1. Bio-Information Processing chaired by A/Prof. Dinesh Kant Kumar from RMIT university
  2. Optimization in Sensor Networks workshop, chaired by Moshe Zukerman (Mathematics), Palaniswami and Baikunth from The University of Melbourne, was conducted in collaboration with Australian Mathematics and Statistics Institute and was well attended.
  3. DEST funded Australia-EU Joint Workshop on Signal Processing in Sensor Networks chaired by A/Prof. M Palaniswami, A/Prof. P Havinga (Uni Twente, The Netherlands) and Prof. E. Oja (Helsink University, Finland). The network also succeeded in obtaining another grant to conduct Joint European Australian Workshop on Signal Processing in Sensor Networks. About 14 researchers from Europe visited Australia during Dec 2004. It was a well attended event.
  4. Unmanned Vehicle Systems (Anthony Finn, DSTO)
  5. Machine Learning in Sensor Networks (Arcot Sowmya, UNSW)
  6. Bio-inspired models (David Grayden, Bionic Ear Institute)
  7. Post-graduate student workshop on ISSNIP (Slaven Marusic UNSW)
  8. Workshop in Townsville (Great Barrier Reef) where the sensors are being deployed.

Conferences

Second International Conference on Intelligent Sensors, Sensor Networks and Information Processing
First International Conference on Intelligent Sensors, Sensor Networks and Information Processing
2003 CENDSS Workshop on Networked Sensors and Decision Support Systems
Initial Planning Meeting, DSTO, Adelaide , Australia
November 2003

The initial ARC Research Network brainstorming meeting was held in Salisbury, hosted by the DSTO and attended by researchers from the University of Melbourne, University of Adelaide and the DSTO, where the areas of expertise relating to the key research themes of the network were identified.

Inaugural International Conference on Intelligent Sensing and Information Processing (ICISIP), Chennai , India
January 2004

The conference was organized by key Network participants and was the venue for the second Research Network meeting. Presentations on Network related issues were made by key figures from participating international institutions.

This included: Vittal S.Rao, Rutledge-Emerson Distinguished Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Missouri-Rolla & Program Director for Control, Networks, and Computational Intelligence, National Science Foundation

Project Planning Session, University of Melbourne , Melbourne , Australia
January 2004

Discussions were held with local and visiting international researchers on future project collaborations, possible through the operation of the Network.

Network Planning Meeting, University of Melbourne , Melbourne , Australia
February 2004

This meeting of Research Network participants and potential partners, from around the country, was held to discuss the status of the Network application and discuss opportunities to strengthen the Network through amalgamation with other related successful Seed Funding applicants, in a way that would complement the existing research themes and enhance potential interdisciplinary collaborations.
